Shanklin
The traditional seaside resort of Shanklin is famous for its beautiful sandy beach and its gardens, but there is far more to it than that. Its clifftop walks offer glorious views over Sandown Bay, and you can spend many a happy hour strolling round Shanklin Old Village – a picture postcard place full of small and interesting shops, and lovely places to eat and drink.
Why not try one of Shanklin's beautiful parks or the peaceful Rylstone Gardens, or visit the famous Shanklin Chine - a gorge with rare plants and a delightful waterfall. Visit the theatre and enjoy the annual Shanklin Regatta or one of Shanklin's superb carnivals. Eating out is a pleasure and there is plenty of choice here with a range of restaurants from Mediterranean to Thai, a piano bar, cafes and pubs.
Shanklin is well served by transport, with buses, a cliff lift and ample car parking. Dotto trains operate up and down the long esplanade with a selection of accommodation, places to eat and drink, and children's play area.
And for the more adventurous you can take part in water sports including sailing and windsurfing.
