Sandown

Sandown Beach

Sandown is one of the few seaside resorts to retain its pier, yet this is just one of the town’s many attractions. It boasts a long, golden sandy beach which is a perfect place to spend the day.

Sheltered in a beautiful bay, Sandown is famous for its beach, as well as its traditional seafront and the Victorian pier. Relaxation comes easily here, especially with the enticements of food and drink at a licensed beach café, together with the town’s wide range of great restaurants and pubs.

If you want to offset some of this good living with a bit of healthy exercise, try the water sports centre at nearby Lake, or perhaps try windsurfing and sailing at Yaverland.

We are known as 'Dinosaur Island' and the area around Sandown Bay is a prime location for fossil hunting. So why not spend some time looking around – you just never know what you might find. But whatever you do, don’t miss the stroll along the dramatic coastal path at Culver Down. The panoramic views over the bay, across the island's eastern coast and out to sea are simply stunning.
