Newport

Newport Guild Hall

Newport stands at the heart of the Island, its bus services radiate out in all directions, making it an ideal location for visitors wanting to explore. With good quality accommodation, a fine choice of places to eat and drink, and a combination of national and local independent shops.

Newport is full of attractive architecture and the newly restored Newport Minster stands proudly in the centre of town. The colonnaded Guildhall, designed by John Nash, houses the Museum of Island History and the Tourist Information Centre. Historic buildings have been restored to create the Apollo Theatre in Pyle Street and the Quay Arts Centre, on the western bank of the river, where there are pubs, sports facilities and a cycleway to Cowes. Leisure sports are available at Seaclose Park and at the nearby Mountbatten Centre, a modern complex with indoor swimming pool, theatre and Arboretum.

The town also has as multiplex cinema, three theatres, pubs, restaurants and nightclubs, so there is no shortage of decisions to make on how to spend your time!  If you feel like some exercise, you might want to walk or cycle by the River Medina to Cowes, or take the short trip to go back in time at Carisbrooke Castle. And for a truly spooky experience, why not join one of the Newport ghost walks – if you dare!
